This year we are offering a 3 night Christmas break from 24th to 26th with an option of adding the 23rd to make it a 4 night break. From the time you arrive we will pamper you and make sure that this Christmas is the one you remember.

The New Year Break is 3 nights from 31st December through to 2nd January - we recommend that you start the year with some wonderful insanity and go to the Raft Race (see below) - if you plan ahead you could even take part!

We depart from our usual arrangements during the Christmas break and New Year Holiday. Because many restaurants and pubs are closed we offer the option of having lunch instead of afternoon tea. The lunch or afternoon tea can be packed up and taken as a picnic if you are walking or taken at the cottage as you like.

We will work with you to make sure that you get the menu you want - it could be turkey, goose or pheasant, it could be traditional, modern or individual. All the cakes and puddings are homemade. We usually suggest a menu and then you can add, subtract or simply tell us what your favourites are!

There is a Christmas tree and all the trimmings which you can decorate yourself - over a few mince pies and sherry of course - or it can be ready for when you arrive.

If you want to attend the local Church over the Holiday we will pass on the details to you.

The cost during the holiday is £650 per day for up to 6 people - minimum 3 days.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Raft Race

On Boxing Day morning there is the annual Raft Race along the River Derwent. Usually, more than forty teams enter the race. Entrants are not limited to local clubs and individuals, but also teams from other parts of the British Isles partake in this fun race down the River Derwent.

The race starts at 10am from Cawdor Quarry in Matlock and the finish line is at Cromford Meadows (about 5 mins from Catered Cottage).

Crowds often turn out in good numbers, no matter how bad the weather is! This is, indeed, one the the Derbyshire Dales' most popular events. Lots of flour bombs and water bombs are thrown at spectators and vice-versa. The Funds raised by this event are donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
